Google Describes Murdock’s Google Piracy Allegation Tweets as Nonsense
Rupert Murdoch gets in the public eye again as his new Twitter account is to take Google on over online film piracy. With a series of tweet posts made by Murdoch over last weekend, he criticised Obama for backing Google, while Google make no change to blocking piracy sites.
"So Obama has thrown in his lot with Silicon Valley paymasters who threaten all software creators with piracy, plain thievery," he began, referring to the US government's opposition to some heavy-handed areas of the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act.
"Piracy leader is Google who streams movies free, sells adverts around them. No wonder pouring millions into lobbying. Film making risky as hell. This has to lead to less, hurting writers, actors, all concerned," he said.

Rupert doesn’t hate Google, as he states:
"Understand more than all allege! Google great company doing many exciting things. Only one complaint, and it's important."
Murdoch followed on to try to find as many piracy links through Google as he could relating to the film, Mission Impossible starring Tom Cruise. He then found very easily "several" sites promising free downloads:
"Just been to google search for Mission Impossible. Wow, several sites offering free links. I rest my case."
Google’s Response
Google has issued a statement in response to Murdoch and describes his rant as "nonsense".
Google spokesperson Samantha Smith said, "Last year we took down 5 million infringing web pages… Like many other tech companies, we believe that there are smart, targeted ways to shut down foreign rogue websites without asking US companies to censor the Internet."
Murdoch blames the prices of coke and popcorn in cinemas everywhere for people leading astray and illegally downloading pirated films, and he could just be right don’t you think?
"Just for the record, cinemas average well over half ticket money," Murdoch added. "Agree about cinema prices which out of our control - but even more offensive are prices for popcorn and sodas."
Would you go to the cinema more if the prices of Coke and Popcorn were significantly lowered?...
